Operation Encompass
At our school, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are proud to be part of Operation Encompass, a national initiative that supports children who may have been affected by domestic abuse.
What is Operation Encompass?
Operation Encompass is a partnership between schools and the police. When the police attend an incident of domestic abuse where a child is involved, affected, or connected to the household, the police will notify the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL- Jayne Fisher) as soon as possible.
This information is shared so that appropriate support can be offered to the child during the school day if needed.
How does it help children?
Children can be significantly affected by witnessing or experiencing the effects of domestic abuse. By receiving information promptly, school staff can:
- Provide emotional support and understanding.
- Monitor the child's wellbeing.
- Offer a safe and secure environment.
- Make reasonable adjustments to meet the child's needs on that day.
- Work with families and other agencies where appropriate. [1] [2]
Confidentiality
Information received through Operation Encompass is treated as confidential and is shared only with appropriate staff on a need-to-know basis. Records are stored securely in line with safeguarding requirements and data protection legislation. [3]

Operation Encompass is a safeguarding initiative operating across all police forces in England and Wales. The scheme is supported by legislation within the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, helping to ensure that children affected by domestic abuse receive timely support in school. [4] [i]
