Attendance

Attendance Matters

At St Barnabas Church of England Primary School, we believe that excellent attendance is essential for children to achieve their full potential and ‘let their light shine.’ Every day in school provides valuable learning opportunities, helps children build friendships and develop positive routines.

Our Attendance Expectations

We encourage all pupils to achieve attendance of 96% or above.

Why Good Attendance is Important

Children with good attendance:

  • Make better academic progress.
  • Develop confidence and resilience.
  • Build strong friendships.
  • Feel more connected to school life.
  • Establish positive habits for the future.

Even a few days of absence can lead to missed learning and gaps in knowledge.

Reporting an Absence

If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please:

📞 Call the school office on 01925 633606 by 9am

OR send a message on Class Dojo

Please provide:

  • Child's name
  • Class
  • Reason for absence
  • Expected return date (if known)

Parents should contact the school on every day of absence unless otherwise agreed.

Medical Appointments

Where possible, please arrange medical and dental appointments outside school hours.

If this is not possible:

  • Inform the school in advance.
  • Provide appointment evidence where requested.
  • Ensure your child attends school before or after the appointment whenever possible.

Term-Time Leave

The Government does not allow family holidays during term time except in exceptional circumstances.

Did you know a 2 week holiday in term time means that the highest attendance your child can achieve is 94.7%? (In a speech bubble if possible)

Requests for leave must be made in writing to the Headteacher before any arrangements are made.

Unauthorised absences may result in further action in line with local authority guidance.

Late Arrival

School starts at 8:40am

Children should arrive in good time to be ready for learning.

Arriving late:

  • Causes disruption to learning.
  • Can impact children's confidence and wellbeing.
  • Results in lost learning time over the school year.
